BUTTER VERSUS MARGARINE: WHICH IS BETTER?
Some stick margarines ave more trans fat than butter does. Add up the trans and saturated fats (almost equally unhealthy) in each, then compare. Most tub margarines win hands down.
One tablespoon butter has 0.3mg trans fat, 7.2 g saturated fat making a total of 7.5 g bad fats and 30 mg cholesterol
One tablespoon stick margarine has 2.8 g trans fat, 2.1 g saturated fat making a total of 4.9 g bad fats and zero mg cholesterol
One tablespoon tub margarine has 0.6 g trans fat, 1.2 g saturated fat making a total of 1.8 g bad fats and zero mg cholesterol
Keep daily intake at or below zero g trans fat, 20 g (based on 1800 calories for women) OR 24 g (based on 2200 caloreis for men) keeping total bad fats at 20 g for women and 24 g for men and 300 mg cholesterol for both women and men.
