Savory noodle kugel


1 T. butter
1 large onion, chopped
1 can (10.75 oz.) condensed cream of celery soup
1 c. water
3 eggs, beaten
1 T. chopped fresh chives
1/8 t. pepper
4 c. hot cooked egg noodles
½ c. shredded Swiss cheese, divided

Heat butter over medium heat; add onion; cook until golden brown. Combine soup, eggs, chives, pepper, noodles, ¼ c. Swiss cheese and onion in shallow 2-quart baking dish. Bake at 350* F. for 45 minutes. Sprinkle with remaining cheese; bake an additional 10 minutes or until center is set. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.
